About Me
Emily Scharf is a singer, musician, performer, and artist currently based in Chicago, IL. She is currently studying for her MM in Vocal Performance at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. Emily is a recent alumna of DePauw School of Music (2024). She has served as a theory and musicianship tutor in addition to her operatic studies. Her most recent operatic roles include Water in The Little Prince and Witch #1 in Dido and Aeneas. This upcoming Spring, Emily is covering the role of Susanna in the CCPA production of Le nozze di Figaro.
In addition to operatic work, Emily has had many experiences with choirs. Emily was a member of Atlanta Young Singers for 9 seasons. During that time, she sang in the 2014 World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia, toured Sweden, and sang for Nelson Mandela’s Centennial Celebration in South Africa. In 2023, Emily made her Italian debut as a chorus member in Le nozze di Figaro, and as a soloist in the opera scenes program with the International Lyric Academy. She also performed in the Academy’s North Carolina Opera partnership. As a member of DePauw University Chamber Singers, Emily performed alongside the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra in their performance of the oratorio Voices of Light.
Domestically, Emily has toured with choirs in NYC, Alabama, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Georgia, Utah, Wyoming, and Southern California. She has performed in GMEA’s Reading and traditional All-State Choirs, performed as a delegate from Georgia in the American Girl Choir (2016), and sang in the Grand Teton Music Festival Choir. At age 13, Emily sang at Carnegie Hall in New York City in the concert series Eternal Light.
In addition to choral work, Emily has also participated in multiple musical theater productions, most recently Mary Sunshine in Chicago, and a featured ensemble member in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Emily took part in creating a film, Interspaced, with 7 Stages. In addition to working in 7 Stages’s summer programs, Emily has also participated in various summer shows with the Alliance Theater. Emily also attended Georgia Governor’s Honor Program, year 56, in voice and science areas of study.
Along with choral and theatrical work, Emily has also competed in the Classical Singer Magazine classical and musical theater competitions, the Georgia Symphony Orchestra Virtual to Center Stage competition, and was a finalist in the Georgia Schmidt competition. Emily was the 2020 recipient of the National High School Choral Award.
Emily is a very motivated and creative individual. When she is not singing, practicing, or rehearsing, Emily enjoys gardening succulents and making handmade jewelry.
