Upcoming Performances! Water in The Little Prince by Rachel Portman

Exciting news! This Spring season I will be performing the role of Water in Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince, directed by Mary Martin with Orcenith Smith as Maestro, at DePauw University. I will be performing for two of the nights, Friday, March 1st (7:30 PM EST) and Sunday, March 3rd (2:00 PM EST). Tickets are available at the DePauw Green Center Eventbrite. I hope to see you there!

In the meantime, enjoy some fun facts about The Little Prince and the unusual nature of the character Water.

  • Water is the only element-based character in the entire show!

Yep! It’s true. In the show you will meet a large cast of fun characters, including a King, Business Man, a Fox, and a Rose. You won’t meet anyone else made out of a primary element, such as air, fire, and earth, throughout the show!

  • Water is the only character in the opera that is not explicitly mentioned in the original book!

Water is not in the original French-language children’s book of the same title and story. Rachel Portman, the composer of the opera, added her to the score. In my interpretation, Water is there to visualize the intensity of the Pilot’s need to find water. She acts as a constant reminder of the Pilot’s mortality.

I hope to see you at Moore Theater for The Little Prince!
