About the Name:
I was inspired to call my recital “Saints and Haints” because of the almost perfectly two-themed repertoire I was programming. Most of my repertoire could be categorized as either sacred music, or music about spirits or intense secular emotion. You may be wondering, what does “haint” mean? Is it just a word to contrast with the word “saint”?
Haint is an old Southern word originating from the Southeastern Coast and Appalachian region of the United States, specifically Georgia and South Carolina. It refers to spirits and other supernatural beings. There is an old folk tale that haints couldn’t cross over water. People would paint their porch ceilings specific shades of “haint blue” to confuse the ghosts and prevent them from entering their homes. I was inspired by this fun little word and decided to include it in the title, as I felt like it incapsulated the remainder of my repertoire. Also, haint blues are some of my favorite colors.
Here are some examples of the color!

I sincerely hope that you enjoy this recital! Remember to save the date!
